Shimano Deore XT Di2 RD-M8250 Rear Derailleurs feature a design that offers incredible wireless shifting performance and better clearance over trail obstacles with improved survival odds if an impact unfortunately occurs. The derailleur body incorporate a skid-plate design with a durable aluminum plate that helps deflect strikes, a wide link structure for enhanced drivetrain stability, and a pulley cage that shields solid pulleys to prevent debris from jamming up the moving components. A revolutionary wedge shape adds considerable clearance that helps to avoid and/or deflect impacts, and an integrated RD Protection function instantly returns the derailleur to its original position after impact. Shadow ES chain stabilization is an evolution of the original Shadow chain stabilization system, and has been developed in part to create the lower profile at the leading edge of the derailleur while maintaining strong chain retention and reduced chain slap on the chainstays when hitting rough terrain.

Shimano evolved their Di2 shifting by taking the battery and wiring that used to be housed within the bike's frame and tucked the battery within a fully encased compartment in the rear derailleur to produce a truly wireless system which can be used on any mountain bike with a derailleur hanger. Lightning quick and very precise shifts happen at the moment the XT Di2 Shift Switches are actuated, with the rear derailleur effortlessly gliding the chain up and down the HYPERGLIDE+ cassettes.
