Obsession: Bikes asks for and receives hundreds of previously loved kids bikes and invests hundreds of hours to fix these and give them to kids in our community who otherwise would never know the freedom that a bike can bring: the lesson of ownership. The power of movement.
This is our way to give back to the community.
Donate Bikes for a Good Cause!
You can donate your bikes at two locations in North Vancouver, BC:
- Our 94 Lonsdale Store
- North Shore Bike Park facilities at the Capilano Mall (old Sears building).
Until now, we were only able to accept donations during Christmas time because of time and space constraints. But now, thanks to the newly added North Shore Bike Park space, we can take in and work on these bikes all year long!
Old or new, well used or barely ridden, in perfect condition or in need of a bit of TLC (as long as they’re not completely rusted!). We will make sure to clean the bikes up, repair whatever needs to be repaired, and make them nice and safe before they go to their new homes.
We also accept:
- Cash donations to purchase the necessary parts for the repairs.
- Your time – if you have mechanical skills and want to help fix up some bikes, get in touch!
Donate Bikes in need of Repair
Do you have a bike kicking around that hasn’t been ridden in a while?
Has your kid grown out of their bike and would like to pass it to someone else?
Maybe you’re a retailer and would like to collaborate with a batch of kids’ bikes?
We look for all sizes of bikes – from balance bikes to bikes with training wheels (14” and 16”), 20” and 24” bikes, 26” youth bikes and adult sized bikes for teens and young adults that will likely use them for commuting to and from school!
Bike Donation program for Kids in Need
We work closely with Family Services of the North Shore, Hollyburn Family Services, the Salvation Army and other charities to get in touch with families in need and provide their kids with the newly repaired bikes.
We make sure to match the available bikes with the needs of the kids – specially regarding size, so every kid has an appropriate bike for their age. We also provide a brand new helmet with every bike, kindly donated by some of our partner brands like Bell, Giro or Bontrager. We want to make the experience of having a bike enjoyable but also safe – and a helmet is a must to provide that safety for the families.
